Group training for Off-Ice is a great way to maximize performance and help avoid injury. This class will give your skater the edge they need in today's competitive world. Each class has a different focus in strength and conditioning and it's a lot of fun.
We also run periodic training camps for Off-Ice Strength and Speed Conditioning. Ask us for more information!

Attention: ON-ICE COACHES
Sports Specific Training
The Off-Ice Strength and Conditioning program, developed by the Fitness Edge, Inc. Multisport Training Systems, was designed to improve skaters' ability to perform at their best on ice -- Period! One thing that separates those on top and those wishing to get there is a solid Strength & Conditioning program.
You'll find our program is unique. It's not the traditional routine weight machines strength training, but instead combines movements, balance, agility, speed, and explosive training.
In addition to the sports specific training, we work closely with the athlete's on-ice coach to individualize the skater's strength and conditioning program.
Our off-ice programs start with an evaluation of the skater's abilities. As a result of this evaluation, we design a strength and aerobic conditioning program that is sports-specific, targeting any weakness and/or muscular imbalance. The age of the skater is strongly considered in all the training.
Periodized Training
Figure skating is a sport that requires a very high aerobic capacity, cardiovascular endurance, anaerobic power and explosiveness in the lower body, muscular strength & endurance (without the bulk), balance, agility and flexibility. These are all areas that need individual attention and should be developed individually and incorporated into the whole program. By adhering to a periodization-training calendar, all these areas can be effectively enhanced, making the skater the best that he/she can be.
Equipment
By implementing a wide variety of the most state-of-the-art and versatile equipment, along with some time tested equipment, the training becomes challenging, fun and best of all it produces results!
Here are just a few of the pieces of equipment we train with:
Medicine balls
BOSU
Reebok core board
Stability balls
Agility ladders & hurdles
Ultra-Slide board
Resistance tubing
Weighted vests
Power drag sled
Running chute
The ability for a skater to perform explosive jumps (and land them) while controlling the body's turns in mid-air, gaining speed & momentum while controlling & developing these abilities, is a priority in our training systems.
Plyometrics and Jumps
Trainers often oversimplify the practice of plyometrics. We put the skaters through an extensive strength-conditioning program before starting any plyometric training. This helps to train the body for the intensity of explosive jumping while avoiding injury. We control the number of contacts per plyometric workout, and consideration is also given to the athlete's current on-ice jumping program, either that day or during the week. We teach skaters the difference between "just jumping," and plyometrics.
