Body Mass Index (BMI) Calculator
Do you know how much muscle you have? Do you know how much fat you have? Guess what -- one pound of muscle burns about 45 more calories a day than one pound of fat. So building lean muscle by strength training can help you lose or maintain weight.

BODY MASS INDEX (BMI) is an expression of height and weight data used to chart body fatness. A high BMI is associated with greater risk of cardiovascular diseases and diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol, stroke and certain cancers. Since BMI calculations use total body weight and not estimates of lean muscle mass and fat, it can not determine between the overweight and the more muscular. Remember, muscle weighs more than fat. Therefore, the BMI test should be used in conjunction with other body composition assessments. Additionally, BMI testing does not work for anyone under 18, for bodybuilders and pregnant or nursing women.
